The QuikTrip project in Parkville is still moving forward and construction on the site is expected soon.
Sean Ackerson, assistant city administrator and community development director, said the company has submitted its engineering plans to the city for review.
Representatives from QuikTrip were in the city recently to review the plan to send stormwater from the corner of Hwy. 45 and Hwy. 9 to the west and into the city’s water detention pond near the YMCA. Upgrades would be required at the pond in order to accommodate the additional water, said Ackerson.
Ackerson said KCP&L is expected to be mobilizing soon to move utilities around the property to allow for the construction with grading work beginning on the site in November.
Final plans for the gas station construction are expected to be on the planning and zoning agenda for Nov. 10 and, pending approval, be before the board of aldermen on Nov. 17.
Ackerson said QuikTrip is still expecting to have construction finished and open the store in the summer of 2016.
The QuikTrip proposal has seen several revisions since it was first proposed in 2013 for the property on the southeast corner of the intersection of Hwy. 45 and Hwy. 9. The original proposal would have included a McDonald’s on the site, but was removed.
The gas station plan will include connections to Julian Drive in front of Platte Valley Bank and a connection to Hwy. 9 in front of Bank Liberty. A new right turn only entrance would also be constructed along Hwy. 45. QuikTrip will also construct a large berm and plant trees along the south side of the property to buffer the homes in Pineridge.
The preliminary plan was approved by Parkville in June 2015.
