County picks independent audit firm

A contract for independent audit services was approved by Platte County officials on Monday.

Five proposals were received on Nov. 21 following a request that went out on Aug. 15.

Out of those five proposals, Platte County Auditor Kevin Robinson recommended utilizing McGladrey & Pullen to perform the county’s independent audit services.

Rather than utilizing a copyright agreement supplied by McGladrey and Pullen, Bob Shaw, county counsel, drafted an agreement between Platte County and the audit firm designed to benefit the county rather than the firm, said Robinson.

Robinson said the audit services will cost approximately $61,000. That is a $12,000 savings from the previous year.

Jim Plunkett, second district county commissioner, asked Robinson if he had any ties to McGladrey & Pullen. Robinson said he has never had a personal relationship with the audit firm.

“As you know I was self- employed and owned my own business prior to this. Before that I was in corporate America, but not in accounting firms,” said Robinson.

“There was a history with the previous auditor and the audit firm, so that is good to hear,” said Dusenbery.
