Parkville restaurateur dies at age 49

The unexpected death of an active downtown Parkville businessman shook his customers, friends, family and fellow business people over the weekend.

Frank McCall, 49, of Parkville, owner of Frank’s Italian Restaurant, was stricken at his mother’s home near Parkville on Sunday. His brother, Jim McCall, said paramedics told him Frank appears to have had a heart attack.

Jim McCall said the outpouring of concern over his brother’s death has been “phenomenal.”

“We’ve heard from some of his old teachers, the chief of police, the county commission, many others,” Jim said Tuesday.

McCall praised his brother’s quiet leadership for downtown Parkville.

“He was a quiet guy down there but he was a quiet leader in helping Main Street start a trend of rehabbing those old buildings. That’s what Parkville needs, that update. I’m real proud of what he did and I know that he was proud, too. He was a true entrepreneur,” Jim told The Landmark.

Frank had just taken on a new partner in the business.

“The new guy will keep the restaurant, Frank’s Place, open. That’s a good legacy for Frank,” Jim said.

Frank McCall had owned many companies, including FTM Vending and the restaurant. He was a member of the Parkville Community Improvement District, Parkville Chamber of Commerce and the Main Street Parkville Association. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7199.

He leaves his wife, Susan; son, Brent; mother, Mary Ann McCall; three brothers and a sister.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 at St. Therese Catholic Church. A private committal service will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Frank Thomas McCall Memorial Fund to be established at a later date in care of Patriots Bank of Parkville.
