Dearborn’s mayor has resigned.
Frank (Junior) Downing told The Landmark he submitted a written resignation last Tuesday morning, a day after the board of aldermen’s regular monthly meeting. Downing, age 83, declined to go into specifics surrounding his resignation.
“I just felt this was a good time,” he said.
Downing had been reelected without opposition in April. In addition to his latest stint at the city’s helm, Downing also served as Dearborn’s mayor for much of the 1980s. He also formerly served as zoning officer for Platte County.
“I will still do what I can to help the city,” Downing said.
Donald Swanstone, Jr., president of the board of aldermen, will now act as mayor. Other aldermen at Dearborn are Luke Thies, Larry Wilmes and Cory Hott.
