Filing for county posts will begin on Feb. 28

C​andidate filing for the August 8, 2006 Primary Election opens Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 8 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. March 28 at the Platte County Board of Elections, 2600 NW Prairie View Rd., Platte City. The Board of Elections office will be open for filing Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the filing period.

Candidates for the following offices must file with the Platte County Board of Elections:

Presiding Commissioner; County Clerk; Collector of Revenue; County Auditor; Recorder of Deeds; Prosecuting Attorney and Republican and Democratic Committeemen and Committeewomen. Qualified candidates interested in filing for nomination to Platte County offices must provide proof of identity and a fifty-dollar filling fee or paid receipt from the political party central committee. Candidates for political party Committeemen and Committeewomen are not required to pay a filing fee. Candidates for county offices and political party Committeemen and Committeewomen must file in person with the Platte County Board of Elections except for members of the armed services on active duty and disabled persons who may file by certified mail.

The Platte County Board of Election Commissioners recently approved a new procedure regarding ballot placement. For candidates who file on February 28 – opening day, the placement order for each race will be determined by a random drawing. After the first day, candidates’ names will be placed on the ballot based on the date and time of filing.
