A 28-year-old Weston man was found dead by his father on Monday morning after not coming home the night before from a Kansas City Chiefs game.
According to Weston Police Chief Terry Blanton, Jeffrey Moore was dropped off by his brother at the brother’s home in Weston. Moore told his brother that he wanted to walk around town for awhile before heading home for the night.
Blanton said family members began their search for Moore around 4 a.m. on Monday after he didn’t turn up at his home Sunday night. Moore’s wife then contacted the police station about her husband’s absence.
“His wife came to the station and talked to one of our officers, stating that her husband didn’t come home that night and she was concerned about his whereabouts,” said Blanton.
According to Blanton, Moore’s father, Ronald D. Moore, found his son around 9 a.m. on Monday lying in Brill Creek, located near the junction of 45 Hwy. and Fifth Street, about a block and a half from his home.
“It appears when he was walking home back through that area–which is a pretty rough area back there–that he was walking along an embankment and fell off a 40 foot cliff and into the creek and drowned,” said Blanton.
Moore is survived by his wife, Criselda, and three children. He was a member of the Federal Corrections Officers Union and had served in the U.S. Navy. His funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9 at the Leavenworth Cemetery in Leavenworth, Ks.
