Platte City police ready to acquire motorcyle

A short agenda was set on the Platte City Board of Aldermen’s meeting Tuesday evening in Platte City. The meeting was set to take place after The Landmark had already gone to press early for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The board will consider the approval of a lease agreement with Jack Fleming’s Ozark Harley Davidson in Lebanon, Mo, for the acquisition of a Police Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Chief of Police Joe McHale listed this acquisition as a key objective of the city’s police department for fiscal year 2005.

The cost of the lease will total $1,859.92, with $500 toward the one year lease of the motorcycle and the remaining cost for the emergency equipment and installation.

The cost of the lease and the equipment has been funded in the police budget for fiscal year 2004-2005. The emergency equipment is a one time purchase for the motorcycle and would become a part of the police inventory.

Officer David Leach, who has had 30 years experience as a motorcycle officer, will be the sole operator of the vehicle for the next year. He is also a motorcycle officer trainer with certification by Institute of Police Technology and Management in Jacksonville, FL.

The board was also set to make amendments to the City Code for Solid Waste Management. The board will consider changing its current service from 3 yard dumpsters to a 6 yard dumpster service.

According to a letter submitted to the board by City Administrator Keith Moody, Platte City’s current rate for tipping a 3 yard dumpster is $14.20 per tip based upon a four week month. There would be a manhour cost savings associated with dumping a 6 yard dumpsters versus two 3 yard dumpsters.

Moody also stated that tipping two 3 yard dumpsters would generate $28.40, if the city set a fee of $20 per tip for a 6 yard dumpster. That means a customer could save $8.40 per tip with four weeks per month, that would amount to a savings of $33.60 per month.

Moody will also present his city administrator’s report to the board. The first item on his report addresses the development agreement with MannRose.

The report states that Mark Hubbard, local attorney, is going to be working with the city on developing an agreement with MannRose for traffic improvements in Platte Valley Plaza. Moody anticipates an agreement to go before the board at the Dec. 14 meeting.

Moody also will present the sewer treatment by Timber Creek Sewer Company. According to Moody’s report, Timber Creek Sewer Company has obtained verbal confirmation from Al Abbett but is waiting a legal description of the easement to allow for sewer improvements that would serve the Platte Valley Plaza area.

Timber Creek Sewer Company has completed their initial survey work and their engineers indicate design plans should be complete within two weeks.

Moody stated that if all goes as planned, construction should begin by mid-December and not take more than a couple of weeks with the sewer line up and running by the end of the year.
