Weston’s annual Applefest scheduled this weekend

O​n October 4 and 5 in Weston, will begin the fall season with their 15th Annual Applefest Celebration. Recognized as one of the finest fall festivals in North West Missouri, Weston’s Applefest was attracted some of the finest artisans and entertainers in the Midwest.

More than 40 professional artists from the four-state area will present a variety of old time “lost arts.”

Among the many arts included is woodcarving, basket making, hand-thrown pottery, pen and ink drawings, quilting and more. Also featured is a garden market, fresh cooked apple butter and hand-pressed apple cider.

Entertainment Live entertainment on Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the traditional Applefest Parade. Musical entertainment will begin at noon with Missouri folk singers, Fresh Cut Grass. At 2 p.m. well known, magician Gene Hernandez of Imagine Magic will present a comedy magic show.

Sunday’s line-up will begin at noon with Kansas City favorites, The Rain Dogs, Bill Graham & the Bluegrass Tornadoes will perform at 2 p.m. Also included throughout the weekend will be strolling banjo players, a dulcimer player and a Native American flutist.

Adding to this year’s event, Weston’s City Park, located just off the downtown area, will feature a living history American Pioneer Village. Among the special activities will be sheep shearing, wool dyeing and yarn spinning.

A professional blacksmith will also be on hand demonstrating the traditional art of early day ironwork. Other park activities will include clowns, games and pony rides.

At 2 p.m. both days, Yvonne Patterson will present “The Wings of Love Bird Show.” Patterson has trained and worked with exotic birds for more than 30 years.

Food Food Court vendors will offer a variety of delicious fall treats including turkey legs, Indian tacos, roasted corn, fried bread, homemade root beer and kettle corn.

Among the many desserts, the Weston Christian Church will feature their “now famous” apple dumplings.

Additional parking will be available on 45 Hwy. with shuttle buses running Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For your convenience, car passes will be given to pick up large purchases in the downtown area.

Hours Festival hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Weston is located just minutes north of the KCI Airport. Take I-29 exit 20 and follow the signs.
