State Harley rally to arrive in Platte County

Harley Owner’s Group members will be converging upon Platte County this weekend for their state rally.

During the weekend long rally, the group will base themselves at the KCI Embassy Suites. Much of Saturday’s activity will take place in Platte City and will culminate with a street festival from 7-11 p.m. in downtown.

According to Dannie Stamper, Platte City Parks and Recreation director, the swimming pool will be open on Saturday with no admission charge to provide entertainment for the kids from noon to 5 p.m. Stamper added that volleyball will also be available while the pool is open.

Approximately 27 vendors have signed up for the Platte City festival portion of the HOG rally. Vendors include, Pizza Shoppe, Mr. Goodcents, C&B Candle, Mc Hale, Maw & Paw Kettlecorn, Shield’s Manor, Muddy River Cycle, Fog Cycle, Pool Hall, The Limu Co., Outlaws BBQ, VFW Post 4055, Rotary Club, KC Creations, Marko’s, Camden Point Masonic, C-C Food Cinda Carter-ice cream, C-C Food Cinda Carter-funnel cake, Bike-A-Spex, Spuds-N-Dogs, Platte City Chamber/EDC, Platte County Grill, “Hot Air” Custom Air Brush Painting, Pizza Hut, Williamsburg Apartments, Pumpkins Etc., and Performance Sports Trailers.

From 4-6 p.m. at the Platte County High School HOG members will be assembling for a motorcycle parade through Platte City. The parade is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The route, McHale said, will begin at 92 Hwy. east to Running Horse Road south to 136th Street west to N Hwy. north, which turns into Fourth Street in Platte City. From there the group will continue north on Fourth Street, crossing 92 Hwy. where they will pass a viewing stand on Fourth and Main and continue north on Vine Street where the group will go west on Vine to Third Street north. The motorcycles will be parked on Third Street between Main and Ferrel.

It is expected HOG members will arrive at the entertainment zone in downtown Platte City between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. Motorcycle parking is on Third Street south of Main Street.

At 7 p.m. Charlie and the Stringrays will begin performing in downtown. The band will continue until 11 p.m.

On Friday, Sept. 5, Main Street will be closed from 5-11 p.m. and no parking will be allowed on Fourth Street to Third Street; Third Street to Second Street; and Second Street to 122 Main Street. Additional no parking zones are Third Street from Main Street to Ferrel Street; the fire department rear parking lot at Second and Main Streets; Fourth Street, Hwy. 92 to Vine Street; Vine Street, Fourth Street to Third Street (to be opened for public parking after HOG parade); Second Street, Hwy. 92 to Main Street (open for Platte County Fire Department access); alleyway directly north of Main Street from High Street to Third Street; alleyway directly north of Main Street from High Street to Third Street; alleyway directly north of High Street from Second Street to Third Street; alleyway directly south of Main Street from First Street to Fourth Street; alleyway directly south of Ferrel Street from First Street to Fourth Street.

The north and south streets will remain open for through traffic.
