Camden Point ready to host Freedom Festival

T​he Camden Point Freedom Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 28. The festival theme this year is patriotism.

The Little Missy/Master Contest theme this year is to show your Patriotic Pride, show your red, white and blue. This contest is for boys and girls ages 2-5. The registration is at 3 p.m. and judging is at 3:30 and will be held at the community building located at the intersection of E Highway and Interurban Rd. The participants will be invited to ride on the Missy/Master float and will receive gift bags and participant certificates.

Contact Debbie Woehrman at 280-3253 for pre-registration information or pick up registration sheets at the Camden Point Post Office. The Bank of Weston sponsors the Missy/Master Contest. Vaughn’s Orchard of Weston, provides the trailer for the Missy/Master float.

The parade registration is held by the elementary school on Scout Street and will begin at 3:45 p.m.. Stop by to register and get your line up number. The parade begins at 5 p.m.

There will be a bounce house carnival, train ride, and kids games located in the vicinity of the community building at the intersection of E Highway and Interurban Rd. The Farley State Bank is sponsoring the kid’s carnival.

Several of the vendors that will be offering food, drinks and other items have been with the Freedom Festival since its inception. The Masonic Lodge, Grandpa’s Root Beer, Kettle Corn, Hawaiian Ice, and Carter’s Ice Cream, are just a few of the vendors that will be available. To sign up as a vendor, call Cinda at 280-3406.

The UMB Bank of Camden Point is this year’s sponsor of the festival headquarters and decorations used in some of the festivities. There will be a caricature artist, Penelope Marth, at the festival this year. Raffle tickets for gifts donated by several area merchants will be sold. You must be present to win and all raffle items will be awarded the night of the Freedom Festival.

Some of the featured local entertainers are: The Silber family, Katie Searcy, Dana Welch, Jacob and Vernon Adkins, Brent Baxley, and Holly Baxley, will perform the National Anthem prior to the fireworks display we have planned for this year. The evening’s grand finale will be a spectacular fireworks display by Wald and Company. The celebration includes a parade, Little Missy/Master contest, Life Flight helicopter tour, games, food and craft booths, music and other entertainment.

Organizers express thanks to the Camden Point Volunteer Firefighters who help throughout the evening providing emergency services, and the mayor and aldermen of Camden Point for their help and support throughout the year.
