County crime rate rising

A look at the crime statistics for the Platte County Sheriff’s Department and for the Platte City Police Department show that over the past year the area has seen an increase in several crimes, including assaults, burglaries and domestic violence. Platte County Sheriff Dick Anderson recently explained, however, that the county crime rate is really not out of line in comparison to population growth the county is experiencing.

Chief Joe McHale of the Platte City Police Department reported the following results for his department. The first number is the total for the year 2002 and the second number is the total from 2001.

Assaults: 35, up from 29 the previous year. Auto Accidents: Non injury: 144, previous year 146 Injury: 29, up from 20. Fatality: 1, up from 0. Auto thefts: 7, down from 12. Recovered auto thefts: 4, down from 5. Burglaries: 17, up from 13. Domestic Violence: 62, up from 49. Fires: 64, up from 53. Forgery: 23, up from 14. Narcotic cases: 25, down from 50. Sex offenses: 7, down from 10. Traffic arrests: 868, up from 828. DWI arrests: 26, down from 39. Non-traffic arrests: Felony 17, up from 14. Misdemeanor: 43, down from 51. Total arrests: 1,269, up from 1,227.

SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT YEAR-END RESULTS

Platte County Sheriff’s Office reported the following results. Of note are an increase in felony assaults, domestic violence incidents, burglaries, and DWI incidents. The results are compared to 2001.
