A 79-year-old woman from Rock Port was killed in a four-car crash on Interstate 29 near Tracy last Wednesday evening about 5:25 p.m. Anna B Lewis, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Medical Examiner.

The accident occured when a southbound tractor-trailer, driven by 33-year-old Robert L. Meier of Independence, crossed the median and traveled into the northbound lanes.

According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the tractor-trailer first struck a northbound 1999 Cadillac driven by Charles L. Beaty, 68, of Boca Raton, Fla. This forced the Cadillac to strike the guardrail. The tractor-trailer then struck a 1992 Honda driven by 45-year-old Cathy L. Colapietro of Kansas City, forcing the Honda into a 1998 Chevrolet driven by Raymond G. Adkins, 40. The Honda came to rest in the right lane.

Lewis was a passenger in the Honda. She was wearing a set belt.

The accident slowed the northbound lanes of the interstate to a crawl, and some traffic was diverted onto Hwy. 92 through Platte City for a few hours.
