In what has become almost a monthly routine for the Platte County planning and zoning department and the county commission, another proposed major subdivision has been approved.

The proposed 80-lot major subdivision was approved by the county commission last week, after the developer, Heritage Development of Kansas, Incorporated on behalf of Portal Investment Company, requested the rezoning of approximately 27 acres from PI (planned industrial) to R-7 (single-family high-density).

The property is located on the east side of NW Running Horse Road, 1/2 mile north of Highway D.

Other preliminary plats approved for development in the surrounding area include: Hills of Oakmont, Fox Creek, Running Horse, Running Horse West, Summit Way and The Orchards. Current developments in that area include: Lakes at Oakmont, Timber Park, Timber Park Meadows, and Oak Creek.

Besides the approval of an 80-lot major subdivision, the commission also heard several other requests for smaller rezoning orders.

T.W. Development requested the rezoning of 39.14 acres from agriculture to rural estates to perform a one lot minor subdivision for a single family dwelling. The property is located on the west side of Bowlin Lane.

56.96 acres of land was submitted for rezoning by Gene Bowman from agriculture to rural estates for a two lot minor subdivision, with each lot eligible for one single family dwelling. The property is located on the west side of Baker Road.

Daniel and Melissa Kimball requested the rezoning of three acres from agriculture to rural single family for a detached garage. The rezoning order was needed because they weren’t able to meet the 100 foot buffer in the agriculture zone. All rezoning requests were approved by the commission.
