Tears, smiles, nervousness and sadness will be some of the emotions of the departing senior classes across Platte County in the coming weeks.
With commencement growing closer day by day, the seniors are preparing to take their first steps into the “unknown” world of independence.
At 2 p.m., May 12 in the high school gym, 53 North Platte High School seniors will make that first step.
Student representatives from the senior class will be adressing the graduating class of 2002.
Baccalaureate services will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 5 at the North Platte High School gymnasium in Dearborn. Services are sponsored by the North Platte churches. Carey Casey of Fellowship of Christian Athletes will serve as the guest speaker.
Senior class officers are: Erin Sallee, president; Kati Atchison, vice-president; and Martha Hornbeck, secretary/treasurer. The 2002 Panther class motto is, “Friends help you along the road of life.” Class colors are red and black, the class flower is the lilly, and the class song is “Fishing in the Dark.”
Scholarships will be presented during commencement with others to be presented at awards night at 7 p.m., May 7 in the high school commons.
More than 160 members of the Platte County R-3 High School will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 19 at the Pirate Stadium in Platte City.
Student Council president Rachel Griggs, senior class president Cliff Riner and the to-be-announced valedictorian will be the designated speakers at this year’s graduation ceremony.
The baccalaureate service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 17 at the First Baptist Church, 214 Ferrel, Platte City. It is sponsored by the local ministerial alliance.
Senior class officers are: Cliff Riner, president; Mitch Black, vice-president; Lisa Miller, secretary; and Charles Grutzmacher, treasurer.
This year’s class motto is, “Here’s to the nights we felt alive, here’s to the tears you knew you’d cry, here’s to goodbye, tomorrow’s going to come to soon.” Class colors are red, white and blue, the class flower is the white rose tipped with red or blue, and the class song is “Here’s to the night”.
Scholarships will be presented at an awards ceremony at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, May 9 in the high school gym.
64 Bluejays from the 2002 West Platte senior class will join many other seniors as they move onto a new phase in their life at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 19 in the new gym.
Addressing the 2002 senior class will be Elementary Principal Dave Waddell.
Baccalaureate services, sponsored by the Weston Ministerial Alliance, will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 15 in the new gym.
The senior class officers are: Tina Taulbee, president; Jamie Richardson, secretary; Sara Metzger, treasurer; Katie O’Connor, historian.
This year’s class motto is, “Ant Invenium un Ant Sus Facium” (Either I shall find a way or I shall make one). The class colors are blue and silver, the class flower is a peach carnival rose.
Scholarships will be presented at an awards ceremony at 9 a.m., Monday, May 13 in the new gym.
