Brian Novotny, director of Platte County Parks and Recreation, informed the county commission of the department’s decision to apply for a grant through the Lewis and Clark Challenge Cost Share Program.
The 50 percent matching grant program will be used for a trail project along the Lewis and Clark trail located by South Bluff Road south of Weston. Nowotny stated they will be requesting $54,850, with Platte County matching the funds if the parks and recreation department receives the grant.
In other action, county commissioners put their signatures on two right-of-way certification letters from the Missouri Department of Transportation stating that all of the necessary right-of-way acquisitions have been received for the Sharp’s Station Bridge Project.
According to Dale Thomas, director of public works, this now allows the county to submit itsfinal plans for the project for review to MODOT. The submission of plans will then move them one step closer to requesting bids for the project.
Commissioners also approved a $10,000 agreement between Platte County and Children’s Mercy Hospital. The budgeted funds are given to the hospital for parents in Platte County who are financially unable to pay their bills or who can only fund partial payment.
A contract for $105,000 in services was also signed between Platte County and the Platte County Economic Development Council.
Commissioners also signed a contract for services with Conklin Consulting, a legislative lobbying firm. The service will place a person in Jefferson City to watch issues and bills that concern Platte County on a local level.
A contract presented for approval at last week’s commission meeting, was presented again with an amendment for services between Northland Health Care Access and Platte County. The county commissioners voted to allocate an additional $1,300 in funds for additional services provided by Northland Health Care Access to the county.
Commissioners also voted to re-enter into a contract with SYS-Tech for services to ensure no loss of power to the county’s emergency management center, which includes the 911 system. The seven-day a week, 24-hour corrective maintenance contract was for $2,822.50.
The contract between Platte County and GC Construction was also approved for the construction of the bridge on River Road.
Bid requests were asked for the following items: the county’s annual supplies, which will be due by Feb. 28; the removal of two underground storage fuel tanks on the east side of the courthouse in the parking lot, due Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m.; rear-wheel drive police pursuit vehicles, due Feb. 14 at 1:30 p.m. and two dump trucks with snow plows and sand spreaders, due by Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
Bid awards were also granted during the commission meeting. Roberts Auto Plaza received the bid award for a 4-wheel drive pick-up. The bid was for $17,512 for a Chevy Silverado 1500. A bid was also awarded for a reclaimer from Fehr’s Equipment of Kansas City for $158,571.
