The Missouri Highway and Transportation Department could use some people like Platte City’s Colleen Dowd and Jodi Frey, who have formed their own “pollution control patrol” to clean up litter on the streets in their neighborhood. Department statistics show that more than $1 million was spent last year on litter pickup along Missouri highways during the last fiscal year.
Middle school students of Platte County R-3 Schools have written the education-related articles that appear this week in honor of National Education Week. Jackie Spinner, sixth grade student, wrote: “School at Platte City Middle School is great. In art we drew posters for the state fair. I really like the classes a lot because the teachers are really nice. The P.E. teachers have neat games to learn how to play. I like the songs we sing in music. I am glad we have the teachers we’ve got or else it wouldn’t be what it is today.”
