I am writing regarding recent public responses made by Platte County Presiding Commissioner Scott Fricker in light of ongoing developments.
My concern is not about the substance of any investigation, nor about political disagreement. It is about executive conduct.
The presiding commissioner holds a unique role in county governance. The position carries executive authority, agenda-setting influence, and symbolic leadership responsibility for the stability of county operations. In that role, public communication should reflect deliberation, composure, and careful word choice particularly during periods of controversy or scrutiny.
Repeated emotionally reactive statements, adversarial framing, or impulsive public responses diminish confidence in the office itself, regardless of the underlying issue.
County governance requires steady temperament, disciplined communication, and institutional restraint. This is especially true when legal or investigative matters are involved. The tone and posture of executive leadership directly affect public trust, staff morale, and the perception of procedural integrity.
This concern is structural, not personal and not partisan. Leadership requires not only authority, but composure and deliberation consistent with the responsibilities of the office.
I respectfully ask the commission to consider whether current public communication reflects the standard of steadiness expected from the presiding executive officer of Platte County.
