Platte County Democratic Central Committee members gathered with Gov. Mel Carnahan at a fundraising picnic held at the Operating Engineers Park in Weston Saturday. A crown of 120-150 people gathered at the Platte County Democratic Central Committee picnic Saturday evening to see and hear Gov. Mel Carnahan. The picnic, held at the Operating Engineers Park on Hwy. 273 between Platte City and Weston, followed an appearance by the governor at a reception held at American Bowman’s Keeping Room in Weston. In his remarks to a partisan Democratic crowd, Carnahan touched on issues such as crime, jobs, and education, and looked ahead to a run for reelection next year.
Summer vacation is winding down for area North Platte R-1, West Platte R-2, Platte County R-3 and Park Hill R-5 students. Students at R-1 head back Aug. 23, R-2 students resume school on Sept. 5 and first day of classes in the Park Hill R-5 district is scheduled for Aug. 24. Platte County R-3 students return Aug. 28.
