After nearly a year of construction, the new Hwy. 92 roadway and bridge between Platte City and Tracy is nearing completion. On Monday, southbound traffic to Platte City was scheduled to be switched to the new road and bridge, according to Tom Markway, resident engineer of this project. Although the new bridge was completed the first of October, the new portion of the highway should be open around the middle of December. With about 1,000 feet of the northbound lane and 400 feet of the southbound traffic lane to be paved, it won’t be until almost Christmas before the entire new road and bridge will be accessible.
Jeffrey W. Mitchell was found guilty by a Platte County jury last week on four counts of receiving stolen property. The two day trial began Monday, Nov. 13. Mitchell, 26, was indicted by a Platte County grand jury on Sept. 13. Mitchell and four co-defendants are accused of operating a burglary ring out of Mitchell’s Platte City apartment. In July, sheriff’s deputies found property reported stolen from several area homes in Mitchell’s apartment. The homes were burglarized during the day while the owners were at work.
The lighting ceremony on the Platte County Courthouse lawn in Platte City is only days away. Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 25 at 6:30 p.m., this year’s Christmas display will include lights on the east side of the courthouse.
