ONE OF TWO RUNNING TO REPLACE HIGGINS
Amber Brune has announced her candidacy for ward three alderman in Platte City.
Brune is one of two candidates for the ward three position on the April 8 ballot.
The other candidate who filed is Ken Graham.
The ward three spot up for grabs is being vacated by longtime alderman John Higgins, who has decided not to seek re-election.
Brune says she was born and raised in Platte City.
“I made the decision to return to Platte City to raise my own family because I believe in this community and its future. This is more than just my hometown—it’s where I’m building a life, growing a business, and investing in the success of our city,” she said in a release announcing he candidacy.
Brune said Platte City is growing, and with that growth comes opportunities and challenges.
“I want to see more residents involved in shaping our future, with a city government that is transparent, accessible, and focused on the needs of its people. Too often, decisions are made without enough input from the very people they impact the most. I want to change that by encouraging more community engagement and ensuring that all voices are heard,” she said.
Brune said her background as a nurse and now a small business owner has given me valuable skills in advocacy, problem-solving, and assessment—skills that are essential for effective leadership.
“I understand how to listen, evaluate needs, and take action to create meaningful change. These experiences have prepared me to serve our community with a thoughtful and solutions-driven approach,” Brune added.
“I am committed to being available—not just during city meetings, but every day. I am opening my office to you, and I encourage residents to stop by, share their concerns, and discuss their vision for Platte City. This is our community, and together, we can make it stronger,” she said.
Brune said she looks forward to meeting with residents, hearing your ideas, and working alongside you to build a better Platte City.
“I ask for your support—and more importantly, your involvement—so that we can move forward together,” she said.
