Design of Multipurpose Fields in Platte Landing Park

In 2021, the city plans to submit a grant application to Platte County help cover a portion of the design and construction of new multipurpose fields in Platte Landing Park. The first phase will include the design build of the baseball and soccer fields.

Pocket Park Safety Improvements

In the first phase of improvements to Pocket Park, the city plans to add measures to ensure the public’s safety inside the park. Safety improvements will include installing bollards along the sidewalk, improving the south stairs, replacing the decking on the second level and moving the Bill Grigsby statue behind the decking. Staff is looking at making some of these improvements as soon as possible to improve the safety of the park, depending on budget.

English Landing Park Playground

Two larger pieces of playground equipment in English Landing Park will be moved to Watkins Park and will be replaced with new playground equipment.

Platte Landing Park Wetland Educational Area

A wetland area was constructed in Platte Landing Park in 2020. Staff will begin working on the design of an educational area that will include a seating area, kiosks that will provide information about plant and animal species and the wetlands in general.

Entrance Signs for English Landing Park and Platte Landing Park

The city is currently in the design phase for new signs at the entrances to both riverfront parks. Signs will be added to direct visitors to both parks and wayfinder signs will be added to direct people inside the parks. Staff will be working to create a design guide to develop a theme for signs in the future so all the parks are tied together.

English Landing Park Roundabout Makeover

City staff is working on a plan for modifications to the existing traffic circle at the end of Busch Drive in English Landing Park.

Improvements will include reconstruction of the wall, installation of various landscape features and installation of a fountain.

Park Equipment

In 2021, the city will purchase two pieces of equipment to help with maintenance of the park. One will be used for trail grading to help spread the material on the trail and to help with trail maintenance and the other will help mow the larger areas of the parks. Both pieces of equipment will help to maintain and improve the overall look of the parks.

Watkins Park

In 2021, the city plans to make several improvements included in the Watkins Park Master Plan. In the first phase, the parking lot will be relocated closer to West Street, fencing will be used to better define the park, a small playground will be installed, a loop trail will be installed around the perimeter and the shelter will be relocated closer to the proposed parking area. The city applied for a Platte County Outreach Grant to help cover the cost of the improvements and will find out if any grant funds will be received later this year.
