The Houston Lake Art Circle hosted its sixth annual art show Saturday. The theme of this year’s art show was Layers of the Lake.
The artists’ work will be on display at the Houston Lake City Hall.
Shelly Broll’s piece, “Tangled in the Net,” is a non-traditional art object. With pieces of candy wrapper, yarn and sticks intertwined, its a blending of natural elements with the manmade. The piece is colorful and jumps out at the viewer.
Artist Linda Kramer created two separate and distinct pieces. Her watercolor piece, “Strata of the Lake,” is a stunning surprise of curvy lines and colors. The piece seems to encourage viewers to let their minds wonder. Kramer said it is the first in a series of watercolor paintings she plans to create.
Her second piece is a colorful metal sculpture of a blue heron. The artist used an electric blue glass bottle to construct the bird’s neck, body and legs.
Betty De La Fuenta’s piece was a color pencil drawing of her favorite lakeside view. Betty, a lifelong resident at Houston Lake, passed away earlier this year. Her daughter, Sharon De La Fuenta, said she was honored the art circle displayed her mother’s work, as well as her own.
“Mom always came home from the Houston Lake Art Circle’s annual art show inspired to start working for the next show. ‘Betty’s Cove’ was the first picture she drew after the art show last year and her last. This was the view of her favorite place to sit and draw,” said Sharon.
Artist Dan Coronado created a bird feeder with a large green platform. The structure was stabilized with weights.
Carolyn Carey submitted a photograph of several sets of footprints in the snow. Her second photograph featured a deer, which are prolific to the area, wondering near the lake.
There were many additional pieces at the at show, including enlarged photographs, acrylic paintings and a sculpted mask. All the artists live on Houston Lake.
