EDITOR:
I would like to thank the 16.2% of the Platte County registered voters who voted on Tuesday. For the other 83.8% of the voters, where were you and why do you let 12,089 people out of 74,624 people decide to raise your property taxes?
When will the 84% of you realize that local elections will affect your life way more than a presidential election?
For comparison, voter turnout was 81% in November.
The 16% is actually a little higher than most April Elections, but then again when you have issues on the ballot that affect your pay and your work environment the school employees are going to make sure to vote. Last April election we had a whopping 11% show up to vote.
By not voting in these municipal and school district elections, you are letting a very small percentage of voters dictate how much you pay in taxes and who is deciding policy for your cities and schools.
How do we make you care? Please let me know!
