Senior Michelle Lyons was crowned the 1994 Platte County R-3 High School Homecoming queen during halftime at Friday’s football game against Plattsburg. Queen candidates included Emily Donnelli, Kynda Goodwin, Melanie Fuller, Amy Donald, Lindsay Rice, Jenny Varel and Katie Swaney. Senior Russell Springer was crowned king at the powder puff football game last Wednesday night. The week’s events culminated in the homecoming dance held Saturday night in the high school gym.
Platte City Mayor Pearl Brown responded to concerns about and requested input on a proposed community event checklist which she hopes will eventually become Platte City policy at a Main Street Association meeting Wednesday morning. Brown had circulated a copy of the checklist to association members on July 22. The proposed checklist is a three-page document, including a requirement that community groups provide a detailed, written plan and schedule of a proposed event to be submitted to the city at least six months in advance, and payment of a $5 special vendor license for each booth set up during an event.
A grand opening celebration will kick off the new recycling program for Platte City this Saturday. Recyclables will be collected at the parking lot of the Platte City Middle School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
