PARK DESIGN BEING CREATED
The Platte County Commission has approved spending $38,500 to hire RDG Planning and Design, a parks consulting group, to engage in community outreach and create a preliminary design for a new park located at the south trailhead of the Prairie Creek Greenway, located south of Platte City.
RDG Planning and Design recently worked with Platte City to evaluate parks within the city and engage the public to create future plans.
“The population south of Platte City continues to grow,” said county commissioner Joe Vanover. “This new park will be a wonderful place for people to gather and enjoy time outdoors.”
Platte County Parks Director Daniel Erickson said, “The preliminary design process should take about six months. After we decide the concept for this park, it will still take a significant period before it is built.”
Erickson served on the city task force that worked with RDG and city staff during the several months that the group studied Platte City parks.
Vanover added, “I look forward to participating in the process of deciding how this park will look. I only wish my kids were young enough that I could take them to this new park.”
The county parks department’s plan is to build the park at the Prairie Creek Greenway south trailhead in 2027.
