She has over 40 years of experience, and as a retired CPA, she brings knowledge and expertise required to restore the independence and integrity of the auditor’s office.

“The auditor is responsible for being the guardian of public funds. Taxpayers are not a revenue source, they are our stakeholders, and I will be fully accountable to them,” Waldon said.

“I will perform a rigorous review of every county office, asking the tough questions on spending and working directly with each department to maximize the value taxpayers are receiving.”

Waldon believes in fiscal accountability and total transparency. As the county’s chief budget officer, she’s committed to providing accurate forecasts to the commission so they are able to plan for the long term needs of the county. She said providing historical trends and accurate forecasts is a fundamental requirement for keeping our county fiscally strong. Transparency includes giving this information to taxpayers in an easy to understand format, and is a top priority for Waldon.

“I’m running for county auditor because I believe your hard-earned money belongs to you, not to government waste,” Waldon said. “The incumbent voted himself a 30% salary increase, using your tax dollars. This is a flagrant breach of public trust by an elected official from the office that is meant to serve as the county fiscal watchdog.”

Laura Waldon has been a Platte County resident since 1988 and is seeking the Republican nomination for Platte County Auditor.
