Scotty Williams brought home the state 167-pound wrestling title from the Missouri 1A-3A tournament held in Columbia over the weekend. The Pirate wrestling representative captured fifth place overall in competition with 90 schools and more than 200 wrestlers. Mark Verdoorn, 155 pounds, captured second place. Pirate wrestling coach Stan Whitmore was elated at the showing of the four wrestlers at the state competition. Sophomore Ricky Hoskins, 119 pounds, won sixth place. Ken Klingenberg, 112 pounds, who was third in the district meet, won his first match in the state tournament then lost to the eventual third place state winner.
