EDITOR:
The Homestead Property Tax Credit initiative stems from a new law passed last summer that requires most counties in Missouri to ask voters if they want to implement this type of program which restricts property tax increases by the county but may not restrict other taxing entities.
“The way the law is written, it looks like if the voters say no, then that’s the decision,” said Platte County Commissioner Joe Vanover in an interview with KSHB-TV.
This means that the Platte County Commissioners cannot ignore the will of the voters like they did with the Children’s Service Fund issue that passed with 56% of Platte County voters voting to approve.
