Roland Giffee, the new collector for Platte County, is approaching his new job with the same enthusiasm and attention to detail that marked his 28 years of service as county coroner.


Dr. Richard Calvert was chosen as the recommendation for Platte County coroner at a meeting of the Platte County Democratic Central Committee Tuesday night. Calvert, a retired dentist, has been a resident of Platte City for 55 years.

Steve Doerr is shown with his parents at Indiana University Stadium. Steve, the grandson of Mrs. Algin Wills of Platte City, sees his skill at soccer as a way to spread Christianity around the world. As a member of the Sports Ambassador soccer team and the Soccer Friends squad, he toured the world the past two summers, making new friends for America through soccer, and at the same time spreading Christianity.


Platte City crews were busy installing Christmas street decorations last week including lamps on poles, garland and lights. Workmen found it easier to use a bulldozer’s bucket as an elevator than to use a ladder to get to the top of light poles.


Santa Claus will pay his first visit to Platte City at 10 a.m. this Saturday, arriving in a sleigh on wheels to launch a community “Old Fashioned” Christmas.
