A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train rear-ended another BNSF train in extreme northern Platte County on Sunday morning. There were no reported injuries, says Cpt. Frank Hunter of the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. The call came in about 10 a.m. Hunter said the collision occurred just south of the Buchanan County line along Hwy. 45. The tracks are about 30-40 ft. from the highway. Both the trains, which were northbound, were empty. One rail car was completely demolished.

Olive or Twist Liquor Stores in Platte City and Liberty have new owners. Haggard and Sons LLC last week took over ownership of both locations. “It will be locally owned and operated,” said Ralph Haggard, the elder statesman of Haggard and Sons. Ralph’s grandson, Ryan, has worked at Olive or Twist the past few years and will continue to be a major part of the operation of the business. Ralph’s sons, Rob and Cam, are a part of the LLC. Rob is the father of Olive or Twist veteran Ryan.
