The white-tailed deer population is a problem in Parkville as the human population and herds multiply. “The deer population is causing problems for our community,” said Parkville Police Chief Kevin Chrisman. The board of aldermen approved a managed archery hunt in the wooded area between Park University and Riss Lake in an attempt to reduce the herd. Restrictions on where hunting is allowed have been set for the distance from property boundaries and roads.
In the aftermath of plans announced a year ago by American Airlines to discontinue operations at its Kansas City location, over 400 employees of the overhaul base at KCI faced relocation or unemployment Friday morning as the final day came and went. “The decision to resize and reshape the American Airlines Maintenance and Engineering operation was a difficult one to make, but necessary in order for the airline to be more competitive,” American Airlines spokesperson Missy Latham said in a statement released Friday.
This year’s Applefest is Weston’s 22nd annual fall harvest celebration.
