Two Kansas City men are in jail facing second degree murder charges after a drive-by bullet that was possibly intended for someone else brought an end to the life of a 17-year-old Park Hill High School student, Spencer Crosthwait, early last Thursday.

“To pee or not to pee? That is the question many North Platte parents and students have to ask themselves if they wish to participate in sports, parking at the school or other extracurricular activities at the North Platte schools. I have studied the new policy and procedures regarding student drug testing at North Platte R-1 and may assessment is that the policy is poorly written, ill-conceived and has been hastily presented to patrons of the district.”–Letter to the Editor from Jon McLaughlin of New Market.

KC Confidential column by Hearne Christopher: “Suffice it to say a lot of people at the Kansas City Star are not coming clean. It’s not likely they’re legally bound to or anything. But there’s an element of hypocrisy involved in the ongoing cover-up as to the status at the newspaper of Star columnist Jason Whitlock. Whitlock has been absent from the sports pages of the Star since late May. He has popped up from time to time in other media but he hasn’t touched the Star with his however-many-foot-long pole.”
