The burglaries last Tuesday, June 10 had kicked off a search in the area for the suspect, who had fled the initial burglary on foot.

Charged with two counts of felony burglary and two counts of misdemeanor property damage is Logan R. Tipton, who lists an address on Felix Street in St. Joseph. He is being held in the Platte County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

Tipton was taken into custody late Tuesday afternoon, June 10, at a residence along Running Horse Road just outside the city limits of Platte City.

Platte County Sheriff’s Department officials say the burglaries happened this way. At about 8:20 a.m., deputies responded to the 13500 block of NW 135th Court just south of Platte City (Timber Park area) on a reported residential burglary with the suspect believed to still be on foot in the area.

The victim said he entered his attached garage and found the back door to his garage damaged and forced open. A chest freezer had been opened. The victim told police the suspect approached him and asked for food and water. The victim stated the suspect asked to come inside but was denied by the victim. The victim said the suspect asked the victim to not call the police, and proceeded to leave the scene in an unknown direction.

Multiple units responded to the area and began searching for the suspect using K-9’s to track, as well as drone deployment.

Deputies remained in the area searching the Timber Park area, Summit Way neighborhood, and the Prairie Creek Greenway Trail area for the suspect until approximately 12:15 p.m. with negative results.

Then at about 4:10 p.m. that afternoon, deputies responded to the 13800 block of Running Horse Road on another reported residential burglary in progress. Upon arrival, deputies located and took a suspect into custody. The suspect matched the description of the suspect from the earlier burglary. The suspect received medical attention on scene and was transported to the Platte County Detention Center.

The victim in the later burglary said he was inside his residence and heard loud banging noises and someone talking from the basement. The victim stated he walked around the exterior of the residence and observed the back door to be open. The victim told authorities he grabbed a firearm and called 911. The victim said deputies arrived and he exited the residence.

Upon arrival, deputies observed the back door to the basement to have broken glass and had been forced open. Deputies entered the residence and began search for the suspect, who was located in the basement. Deputies say they observed multiple containers of food opened in the basement.

Authorities say the suspect, later identified as Tipton, made multiple spontaneous utterances while being taken into custody. Tipton stated he was hungry and had broken into the residence to get food and water, according to court documents. In an interview with detectives, Tipton admitted to entering the residence, according to the allegations in court documents.
