Judge Charles Curless of Barton County last week announced he has ruled in favor of Platte County but offered no background on his decision in the case of proposed development The Lake at Tomahawke Ridge. Curless’ final decision was entered when he submitted his judgment, finding in favor of the Platte County Planning and zoning Department and the Platte County Commission. The ruling brings an end to the developer’s two-year struggle to get plans approved by the county. Tomahawke would have been an approximately 657-home subdivision on 319 acres of land near the intersection fo Hwy. 92 and N. Winan Road, about 4.5 miles east of Platte City.
Preparations are ongoing for the opening of an ALPS grocery store in the former Cash Saver building at Hwy. 92 and Marshall Road in Platte City. Doug Sharp, store owner, says the tentative opening date is May 19. The building’s interior is being renovated.
Four Platte City aldermen who were returned to their spots by voters in last week’s election took the oath of office Tuesday night from Amy Hubbard, city clerk. Aldermen being sworn in included Tony Paolillo, Charles Cook, John Higgins and Debbie Kirkpatrick. Mayor Frank Offutt also was reelected and took the oath.
Platte City Mayor Frank Offutt thanked Jack and Ruth Swaney for the gift of an easement across their property which will be used to connect currently unlinked walking and cycling paths in the Heritage Trail system.
