ESTIMATED HWY. 92 WIDENING PROJECT COMPLETION PUSHED BACK TO 2027

Two roundabouts have been added to the Hwy. 92 widening project east of Interstate 29 at Platte City. The location of those two roundabouts was made clear at a well-attended open house Monday night, March 10 at City Hall.

Roundabouts will be placed at Windmill Drive and at Bethel Road, officials say, as part of the estimated $20 million project to expand Hwy. 92 to four lanes in a 1.3 mile stretch from Chapel Drive east to Bethel Road. The roundabouts have been added to address previously-expressed concerns about the lack of a limited number of left hand turns in the preliminary design that was unveiled in December.

Officials say this updated plan provides “more convenient access to nearby businesses and residents while negating the need for U-turns.”

Steve Hoeger, mayor of Platte City, stressed that the additions will be “highway roundabouts” designed to handle truck traffic, and not “residential roundabouts.”

Tom Cole, city administrator, said the next step in the process will be to make any tweaks to the updated plan and then begin acquisition of new right-of-way property.

The timeline for the project has been pushed back a bit. It is now estimated construction will begin in early 2026 and be completed sometime in 2027, city officials told The Landmark at Monday’s open house.
