A domestic violence suspect was shot and killed by a Kansas City Police Department officer in Platte County.
A KCPD officer shot and killed a 57-year-old man who police say “advanced toward officers” with a knife, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The shooting occurred about 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 in the 7000 block of North Robinhood Lane, Kansas City in Platte County.
The shooting occurred when officers attempted to arrest the man on suspicion of domestic assault, the highway patrol said.
According to a preliminary investigation, Kansas City police officers were notified of a reported domestic assault that allegedly occurred at the home on North Robinhood Lane. Police say the victim had left the home and met officers at another location. The victim was then taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.
After interviewing the victim, at about 8:40 p.m. officers went to the home to arrest a suspect.
The suspect allegedly exited the home with a “large knife” and “advanced toward officers,” the highway patrol said.
During the confrontation, one officer fired his gun, striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the highway patrol, one officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Authorities say Kansas City police will continue to investigate the domestic violence while the highway patrol will investigate the police shooting.
