Known for its fun approach to shopping, the Furniture Mall of Missouri is taking 150,000 square feet of the former Macy’s with thousands of rooms of furniture and mattresses. Macy’s is set to close for good later this month.

Furniture Mall has existing locations in Topeka and Olathe, Kan., and Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Extensive renovations of the former Macy’s building are slated to begin April 1. The renovations will create the many rooms and environments that Furniture Mall is known for, along with its signature café, serving shoppers homemade custard and fresh baked cookies.

This highly visible location is positioned to become a focal point of Metro North Crossing, the 106 acre mixed-use redevelopment at the former site of the Metro North Mall. Furniture Mall of Missouri will bring a new and fresh energy for an exceptional furniture shopping experience to the thriving Northland community.

The grand opening is expected before the end of 2025.

The Furniture Mall is a local, family-owned business, serving Kansas and Missouri for generations. The Winter family started its furniture business journey in 1933, with a deep-rooted commitment to helping guests create beautiful, comfortable homes.

“We love being part of the communities we serve, and Kansas City already feels like home,” says Jeff Winter, co-owner of The Furniture Mall. “Being a local, family business means we’re not just here to sell furniture—we’re here to build relationships and help families create spaces they truly love.”

The new Furniture Mall of Missouri is part of Metro North Crossing development, spanning 106 acres with an estimated $250 million investment, led by IAS Partners. IAS Partners has a proven track record of reshaping key retail destinations.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Furniture Mall of Missouri to Metro North. They will be a very important anchor of Metro North Crossing that continues our momentum with this project. From Day 1, we’ve had an emphasis on bringing as many local businesses into the project as possible. The Winter family and their team have built an amazing local brand and we feel that it’s a perfect fit for what we are wanting to achieve for the Northland,” said Dan Horn, IAS Partners chief operating officer.

“We make it fun and easy to shop,” says Jeff Winter.

With nearly 1,000 rooms of furniture and mattresses on display, The Furniture Mall makes it effortless to find the perfect fit. Each room is fully styled to inspire, with rugs, wall décor, lighting, and accessories—making it easy for guests to personalize their space and visualize their dream home.

From trikes that let guests cruise around the showroom to fresh cookies, frozen custard, and drinks, shopping at The Furniture Mall is a unique experience. Guests can explore, test, and play while they shop—turning what could be an overwhelming process into an exciting and enjoyable one.

Their “Good, Better, Best” selection ensures that every guest—regardless of budget—can find high-quality furniture that fits their style, comfort, and price needs.

“We’re in the business of helping our guests create more beautiful and comfortable homes—which is our way of making lives better,” says Jamie Winter. “What sets us apart is how we do it. We ask the right questions and truly listen. Then, we use our expertise to find the best solutions—both the obvious and the unexpected.”

The Furniture Mall’s team provides personalized guidance every step of the way, making furniture shopping fun, stress-free, and confidence-inspiring. Guests can see and feel the quality, test the comfort, and personalize the look, ensuring that every piece fits their style, space, and needs perfectly.

“We’ve helped families create beautiful spaces that made them say ‘OHH Yeah!’ for years, and now we’re excited to bring that experience to our Kansas City neighbors,” explains Jeff Winter. “We can’t wait to open our doors to new guests and help them create a home they truly love.”

About Metro North Crossing
Metro North Crossing is a 106-acre mixed use redevelopment on the former site of the Metro North Mall. The total projected cost of the development is estimated at more than $250M with an estimated $100M invested to date on the completed phases, including the $60M Woodstone luxury apartments.

The development is already home to T-Shotz, a 52,000-square-foot golf entertainment attraction, as well as Whataburger, Hawaiian Brothers, Dutch Bros., Thai Orchid, Bloom Nails & Spa, Third Street Social, Select Physical Therapy and Hullhouse Coffee.

Metro North Crossing is the third major mall redevelopment for IAS Partners, the local development team which also completed the redevelopment of the Antioch Center Mall and the Blue Ridge Mall.
