DEAN’S DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
The University of Missouri School of Medicine honored Carl Myers, MD, as the inaugural recipient of the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award.
A longtime primary care physician at Meritas Health Platte City, Dr. Myers is a 1974 graduate of the MU School of Medicine and played an instrumental role in raising funds for his medical class scholarship.
For a decade, Dr. Myers worked diligently mailing personal letters to increase his class scholarship fund from less than $10,000 to more than $500,000. He now collaborates with other alumni to raise funds and make medical education more accessible.
“The cost of tuition is going to continue to rise,” Dr. Myers said. “We should want to give back. Where would we be without education? We didn’t get here by ourselves.”
A practicing physician with North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health for more than 47 years, Dr. Myers is board-certified in family medicine and a specialist in geriatrics.
With a Certificate of Added Qualification in geriatric medicine, he serves as a certified medical director of an American Medical Directors Association’s long-term care facility. He is also a member of the Missouri Board of Healing Arts.
Dr. Myers’ generosity reaches beyond his alma mater. He is an active board member for the Platte County Fair and spent many years conducting physicals for local high school athletes and Boy Scouts.
