TWO CANDIDATES IN RUNNING FOR HIS POSITION
There will be at least one new face on the Platte City Board of Aldermen after the April election.
That’s because John Higgins, longtime alderman in ward three, decided not to seek re-election. His decision to soon step aside sets up a contested race for his position at the municipal election to be held April 8.
Two persons did file for Higgins’ seat in ward three. They are Amber Brune, who resides in the Windmill Creek subdivision; and Ken Graham, who resides on Fourth Street.
Three current officeholders on the board of aldermen did file for the spring election.
Those who did file for the remaining open positions are:
Ward one: Vickie Atkins, a veteran on the board, filed for reelection. She will be unopposed on the ballot.
Ward two, one year remaining on this term: Jesse Bennett, who currently holds the spot after being appointed to the opening after Troy Miller resigned last year.
Ward two: Scott Poague. This is for a two year term, currently held by Poague.
Filing period for city positions had opened on Dec. 10 and ran through 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.
