Input sought for Downtown Platte City

Platte County Sheriff Erik Holland told The Landmark that 83 rounds were fired by the shooter or shooters in the incident that occurred around 1:37 a.m. in the 5500 block of Homer White Road.

The residence is located in a cul-de-sac with other homes nearby. The location is about two miles west of Downtown Parkville, in an unincorporated area of Platte County a short distance off of NW River Road.

Authorities say there were no injuries.

An incident report viewed by The Landmark indicates four people–two adults and two juveniles–were inside the residence at the time of the shooting.

“We don’t believe it’s a random shooting,” Holland said.

No arrests have yet been made.

An incident report indicates multiple callers to 911 were reporting sounds of shots fired in the area of Whispering Hills, Walnut Creek and Homer White Road. The responding sheriff’s deputy immediately noticed multiple shell casings on the ground in the cul-de-sac outside of the residence.

According to the report, the deputy noted broken glass at the front door and what appeared to be multiple bullet holes in the siding.

The incident report indicates the deputy walked over to the garage door, as it appeared to be already open, and was met with a female who identified herself as the homeowner/reporting party. The female invited the deputy into the home, where the deputy was met with her three children, ages 24, 16, and 11, in the basement.

The female told the deputy she was in the house getting ready for bed when she heard multiple gunshots. Two of her children reported being asleep and awakened by the sounds of gunfire. One juvenile reported being awake and playing video games at the time of the incident, though he did not witness anything other than the sound of gunfire, according to the report.

The investigation is continuing.
