THAT’S CLOSE TO HISTORIC AVERAGE
Platte County sales and use tax receipts exceeded 2023, breaking a record that only stood for a year.
According to Platte County Treasurer Rob Willard, general sales tax receipts were up 3.68% this year over last, totaling $12,030,721.90.
Collection for the use tax, sales taxes collected from out of state businesses, grew 4.39% over 2023. The 2024 total for the use tax was $8,541,733.62.
Combined, sales and use tax receipts were close to $3 million over budget estimates, Willard said.
“The growth in general revenue in 2024 is closer to the historic average,” said Willard. “Sales and use tax revenue grew about 3% on average in the previous decade.”
Willard opined that use tax revenue, which fluctuated greatly from year to year, might finally be settling into a consistent growth pattern. Changes in the law mean that out of state businesses are now collecting Missouri sales taxes on purchases by Missouri residents.
The county’s parks and stormwater tax grew by 4.57% and the additional law enforcement sales tax grew by 4.27%.
Receipts for the roads sales tax, which was reduced from 3/8 cent to ¼ cent by voters in 2022, declined by almost 30%.
Platte County’s sales tax rate is 1.25%.
