ACT ALLEGEDLY OCCURRED IN HIS CAR
A 20-year-old Kansas City man is in custody in the Platte County Jail, charged with second degree rape of a woman he knows.
Adrian L. Horton was charged with the crime on Nov. 26 of this year, nearly a year after the alleged crime occurred in his vehicle at a parking garage at Zona Rosa in Platte County.
The victim reported the alleged sexual assault to Kansas City police on Dec. 6, 2023, a day after the incident occurred.
The female told police that she has known Horton for some time, but “while they have been close for a long time they were not in a relationship at the time of the incident,” according to court documents.
She told police that on Dec. 5, 2023 she was having a bad day and reached out to Horton, who offered for them to go for a drive together. She told police that when she initially go into Horton’s car, she immediately established her “parameters” and that she only wanted to go for a drive and was not interested in anything sexual. According to court documents, she told police that as soon as Horton told her “okay” she relaxed and felt okay with him.
According to allegations in court documents, the victim told police that Horton drove them to the Zona Rosa shopping area, located in Kansas City in Platte County, to a parking lot west of the Dillard’s parking garage.
According to court documents, the victim told police that Horton began to get physical with her and started choking her with his hands and grabbing her by the waist and hips. She told police Horton then climbed into the back seat of the car and hooked his arms under both of her shoulders and started pulling her backward toward the back seat. The victim said she actively resisted but Horton did eventually pull her into the back seat.
According to court documents, while Horton was raping her, she said she told him “No!” and “Stop!”
According to court documents, the victim said after they left Zona Rosa, Horton drove her straight back to her house. After he left, she told her roommate what had happened and that she was going to the hospital. The victim did respond to a hospital to complete a sexual assault examination, according to court documents.
Horton remains in custody, with bond set at $30,000 cash only. He has requested a bond reduction, and a hearing on that topic is set for this week.
If he posts bond, conditions are GPS tracking within 48 hours of release and not contact with the victim.
