FIFA is coming, accusations of racism

Before the election, I received several political mailers. Usually it’s tempting to throw them away after a mere glance but these mailers were “showing me” something.

Many of us Missourians know that our state’s official motto, originating from around 1822, is “Salus Populi Suprema Lex Esto” (Latin for “Let the welfare of the people be the supreme law”), but we also know that our state’s informal slogan is “Show Me.”

That said, returning to the two mailers of several weeks ago. One had the collective photo of 18 Republicans–16 men and two women, all asking for our vote. The other mailer had the collective faces of 13 Democrats, with a near balance of seven women and six men, also asking for our vote.

The contrast reflected a thousand words. Election outcomes can be a teaching experience. Do Missourians expect representation in protecting the welfare of the people? Do you see the elected representation being respectful of your vote?

“Show Me” can be very straightforward.
