AT CITY HALL IN PLATTE CITY
An open house/public hearing will soon be held to provide information on the Hwy. 92 improvements planned east of Platte City from I-29 east to Bethel Road.
The open house is set for Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 4-6 p.m. at City Hall in Platte City, 224 Marshall Road.
It will be an open house-style public hearing to share information and plans for the project and gather feedback from the public. There will be no formal presentation.
Participants may attend the hearing at any time between 4-6 p.m. Comments will be accepted at the hearing in the form of a written statement or providing an oral recorded statement.
“Folks that live out there and the businesses can come in and learn more about it,” Tom Cole, city administrator for Platte City, said recently.
Cole took over Aug. 1 of this year for the retiring DJ Gehrt. Gehrt had been the driving force behind the planned project for the city, working to line up financial support from other entities to assist in the project. The major road improvements are a joint project among the City of Platte City and MoDOT and other agencies.
The Hwy. 92 improvements span about 1.3 miles, from near the I-29 intersection east to Bethel road. The existing two lane highway will be upgraded to a four-lane highway to enhance traffic operations and safety throughout the corridor while adding accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Right-of-way and easements will be acquired for this project.
Cole told The Landmark that he expects construction on the project will probably start toward the end of next summer and “bleed into 2026, probably quite a ways.”
Speaking to The Landmark immediately after the recent Veterans Day program, Cole said that “right now we’re reviewing plans, MoDOT is reviewing plans.”
“A lot of communities build big roads all the time. We do not. So this is truly kind of a generational project for us,” Cole remarked.
