Medical emergency leads to I-29 crash

An Overland Park man who experienced a medical emergency while driving on I-29 in Platte County suffered serious injuries when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a sign and a fence.

I-29 lanes at Tracy now open

The incident occurred on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 9:25 a.m. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 37-year-old Viraj Patel was driving southbound on I-29 just south of 72nd Street when he experienced the medical emergency. His 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck the sign and fence.

He was transported to North Kansas City Hospital by Kansas City Fire Department.
