In the nearly 35 years I have been reading The Landmark and the 12 years I was able to write and photograph for you, I have always been impressed with how you take to heart the old journalism adage of being a “watchdog of government.”

This essential service you provide was never more on display than with your multi-month work reporting on and analyzing the ill-conceived tax proposal for expanding the jail system here in Platte County.

Your hard work bringing into the light of day this shadowy 20-year tax hike made the work of 62 percent of the voters that much easier. An informed electorate usually makes a choice that is in everyone’s best interest. You played a big part in that.

Thank you for continuing to be a source of pride in this community, and without a doubt, for me as well.
