Last year’s fair queen, who also won the title of Missouri State Fair Queen, Anita Vanetti, crowned Miss Crystal Threadgill of Parkville as the 1979 Platte County Fair Queen. Eva Taylor of Platte City was named first runner-up princess and Bobbie Shanks of Camden Point was named second runner-up princess. Miss Threadgill was also chosen Miss Congeniality by the queen candidates and was presented a plaque at the queen’s pageant.


The Platte County Court and Sheriff Tom Thomas signed papers last Wednesday for a $19,000 grant from the Missouri Council on Criminal Justice. The funds will be used for a closed circuit monitoring system for the Platte County Jail. A local 10 percent match of $2,112 is required for the project.
