Parkville’s Board of Aldermen heard a presentation on the county’s parks and recreation department and the proposed half cent park sales tax renewal on the August ballot. On Tuesday night, Brian Nowotny, parks and recreation director, spoke to the board along with county commissioners Betty Knight and Kathy Dusenbery. “The community center has been a great addition to Parkville and is the most used YMCA in the Kansas City area,” Knight said.
A fire was reported at the Travelodge along Prairie View Road in Platte City on Wednesday, July 15 around 1 p.m. The fire appeared to have started in the laundry room. Firefighters pulled the burning material out of the room and then extinguished the fire.
Weston’s Board of Aldermen voted to continue their participation in the Platte County Economic Development Council. The board voted to renew at the gold level in the amount of $2,000. According to Kim Kirby, city clerk, the city was previously at the $500 level but opted to increase to the $2,000 level last year.
Parkville Cruise Night will be held the first Saturday of August in Historic Downtown Parkville. See classic cars, muscle cars, hot rods, rat rods, exotics and imports. A DJ will kick off the cruise night with country, rock-n-roll and oldies music.
