Some landscaping and other improvements will soon be made to the lawn of the Platte County Courthouse in Downtown Platte City.
Horticultural Impressions, a landscaping company based in Platte City owned by Aaron Jung, has been contracted to install new landscaping, improve the ADA access in front of the courthouse, repair erosion damage and make other modifications to the lawn.
Amount of the work is $59,785. The agreement was approved on Monday at a meeting of the Platte County Commission.
Dagmar Wood, first district county commissioner, mentioned the county commission is hosting an employee appreciation picnic event on the courthouse lawn on June 14 and asked if the work would be done by that time. Daniel Erickson, facilities manager for the county, said some of the improvements may be done by that time but portions of the project involve concrete work that likely will not be done by June 14.
The contract calls for work to be “substantially completed” no later than Aug. 30.
The design work for the landscaping was done by another company, not Horticultural Impressions, Erickson said.
Erickson added that money for the project will be drawn from the county’s park fund, since the courthouse lawn is a public space that sometimes hosts concerts and other public events.
Wood said Joe Vanover, second district commissioner, spearheaded the effort for courthouse landscaping improvements to be made.
