EDITOR:
Following is my letter to Mayor Kathy Rose of Riverside.
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the decision to replace our current restroom facility with gender-neutral bathrooms in the Riverside Community Center. This decision was made without consulting the members or staff of our community, and I find it outrageous.
One of my main concerns is the safety of the children who visit this facility. I do not feel comfortable with my granddaughter or any child going into a bathroom stall next to an adult of the opposite gender. This change raises serious safety and privacy issues that have not been adequately addressed.
Furthermore, I believe that the money being spent on these renovations could be better used elsewhere. There are many children in our community who cannot afford summer camps or other recreational activities. Instead of spending taxpayer money on unnecessary bathroom changes, we should be investing in programs that benefit the children of Riverside.
I urge you to reconsider this decision and to listen to the concerns of the community. Please prioritize the safety and well-being of our children, and allocate taxpayer funds responsibly.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
